John M. Kirk, Jr. practices in the areas of estate planning, probate and various business related matters.
With respect to his estate planning practice, John works closely with his clients to create tailored estate plans for the specific needs of the client taking into consideration his client’s wishes, family and financial situations, and tax and other considerations. Often John’s estate plans involve business succession planning and strategies for life insurance and possibly other insurance coverages. John also has experience drafting, and advising clients on, Irrevocable Trusts and Special Needs Trusts.
John has significant experience assisting clients or their loved ones through the probate process and the administration of trusts. John has handled probate estates in Michigan courts for the counties of [Oakland, Wayne, Genesee and Macomb] and has advised and consulted with numerous trustees and executors, including banks, trust companies and other financial institutions, through the administration of probate estates and trusts.
In addition, John represents various closely held businesses with many of their legal matters. John’s representations include matters relating to organization of a company, real estate, and landlord-tenant.
John is a graduate of Kalamazoo College and received his juris doctorate from Detroit College of Law. He is a member of the Michigan Bar and Oakland County Bar Association. He started with the firm of Meyer, Kirk, Snyder & Safford P.L.L.C., as a law clerk in 1996 and later joined the firm as an associate. John was then a founding partner in the law firm of Meyer & Kirk P.L.L.C. where he worked with his father, John M. Kirk. After working as an associate at Monaghan P.C. for seven years, John joined Ufer, Spaniola & Frost, P.C. in September, 2018.
John is a former member of the Birmingham Rotary and Birmingham Business Connectors. John played basketball for four years at Kalamazoo College, the last as a player/coach and was an assistant basketball coach at Cranbrook Kingswood School. He is an avid sailor and is a former Commodore of the Walloon Yacht Club.
